“If money is your hope for independence you will never have it. The only real security that a man will have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience, and ability.” – Henry Ford
I saw this quote today and I totally dig it. I feel that at this point I’ve accumulated a good deal of knowledge, experience, and ability though I’m sure I could use more of at least the first two.
Work has been going exceedingly well. I have encountered a number of challenges since I began working at my current employer (Loyola) and the constant battle with improving my own solutions to problems as well as coming up with new ways to fix things keeps me really excited about going to work. That said, I do yearn for a bit more every now and then. I could always use more money, or more time, or more challenges. Really, I’d love to own my own business but in this working climate I feel it’s a really bad time to cast off the chains of middle-management and go it alone in a business of my own doing. I have, for a long time, said I’ll do this or that when I have enough money, but the money always seems a long way off.
It is for those reasons that I have started applying to other, part-time, jobs. I want to continue working with computers as I think I have a great deal to contribute to anyone in the technology field. In addition, the second job will give me more money to save in hopes of starting my own business one day, keep me busier (and therefore allow me to appreciate my free time more – I spend too many lazy hours in front of the TV), and give me some great insight into the small-business supporting tech firms that exist around Baltimore.
Even above and beyond additional jobs related to tech, I have a number of small side projects that I would love to work on as well, not to mention larger life-long projects that I have yet to start. It’s quite an ambitious list that I have all things told, but I look forward to checking off everything as time passes me by.
In the meantime, I’ve finally bought a car (check!) and I’ll be moving into my own room shortly, so I can’t complain. I’ll be posting here in the next few days about getting my car titled and registered in MD, so that’ll be an interesting post to look forward to! Tata!
